This chair is a mahogany reproduction of a typical Philadelphia easy chair from the second half of the 18th century. Note the characteristic C-scroll shaped arm supports. This chair would have been a little later because of the claw feet and the foliage carving on the knee. Earlier forms would have had less refined embellishments. Chairs of this style date form 1760 - 1790.
The front legs on this chair are as elaborate as any of the period with ball & claw feet and knee carving as embellishments. Note the vertical cones on the sides towards the front.   Also note the cornucopia shaped build-ups on the arms. These are typical features of the period.   Also typical of this style of chair is the scarf joint attachment of the back legs. Upholstery by Ralph Dermota of York, PA.
