Reproduction of a serpentine bombé chest attributed to the shop of John Cogswell of Boston, Massachusetts.   The original was made for Gardiner Greene and is currently owned by the Dietrich American Foundation and is on loan to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.   The drawer sides conform to the bombé shape of the sides.   The original dates from 1780 - 1790.
The bombé from was relatively rare and the serpentine front was rarer still.   The beading around the drawers is cut from the solid on both the drawer blades and the sides.   Each side was sculpted from one piece of 3" thick mahogany.   The top is also a single board.   Note the vertical line formed by the left and right extremities of the serpentine curve from each of the drawer fronts.
